For Cello Duo. Commissioned by Jolyon Pegis. Premiered by Sheryl Galvin and Ellen Sanders at the Oberlin Conservatory on January 28, 1989.
Program notes:
Cadenzas and Conversations is a virtuoso cello duo in which each cello begins with a series of competing cadenzas. These give way to a section of traditional melody and accompaniment. The middle section is a quieter version of the argumentative cadenza section; a more true-life conversation. The final section unites the cadenzas, conversations, and melodic/harmonic material of the interim sections.
